Chartres Cathedral
The Chartres cathedral, located on the southwest corner of Paris, in Chartres, the cathedral is considered as a perfect example of the gothic designing and style of architecture. The cathedral is build around the fields of wheat, and the church is the first sight when a visitor comes to the city, the huge spires on it are enough catch a glimpse of the beautiful cathedral. The building back in the ages was the most important building of the city, as most of the economic activities used to take place there, as people used to trade and sell their goods in the cathedral like textile, fuel and may different items, some people tried selling wine there but they were banned from entering the cathedral, but were given a small spot were they could sell it.

 

 

 

Many unemployed workers also gathered at the church searching for different kinds of labor like carpenters and masons and sometimes, the sick and the neglected also got treatment from the church. Originally the church was built for pilgrimages as many people of the city,

 

 

 

visited the place to worship, fairs were also held, which were visited by the many of the pilgrims of the town. The cathedral has 3 large windows, each one is based on its on specific theme, and one has the theme of the glorification of the virgin and the other with the glorification of the Christ, which was made on stained glass back in the thirteen century. On the entrance of the church,

 

 

 

the doors are beautifully carved, and along them are the carved religious statues of swords, Jesus crosses and many more different items, which are considered as a way of displaying the authority of royalty and respect to the god. Each year the cathedral is filled with people as many of them come for worship and to discover the hidden beauty and history behind the cathedral.
