The
fort GT was a high performance sports
car, and was the winner of twenty
four hours of Le Mans, 4 times in
a row. The car was built by an American
company, in order to the win the overall
event. This car was built against
Ferrari’s in order to beat them
in long distance races, and as a result
of which the car won at least six
times in the event. The name GT of
the car came from the forty representing
its over all height of forty inches,
which was required by the race rules.
Earlier the prototype cars were powered
by 4.2 L, V8 engines and production
models were powered by 4.7 L engines
as used in the Ford Mustang. Five
prototype models were also built with
roadster bodywork.
