Sea food market of Europe
Europe is amongst the world’s largest importer of seafood. During the last decade the consumption and demand of seafood rose by almost fifty percent hence making the seafood business in Europe more profitable. The continuous growth of stores, shops, supermarket etc has always benefitted the seafood sales in general. Most of the fish in Italy is marine fish other important imports are shrimp, cephalopods, ground fish fillets and tuna loins. In Europe, there are separate markets for live, chilled, refrigerated and frozen seafood. Even though live fish not part of the tradition of Italian culture, as they do not usually offer live fish in restaurants.

The live fish is kept in order to give consumers the surety that they are having fresh fish meat and in some of the restaurants people even have an option to go and select their own “live fish”. Some of its attractive imports include the Salmon, which is not consumed that much in Europe but makes for a useful ingredient in cheeses, spreads, fresh pasta and other meals. Tuna fish is one of the famous seafoods that is consumed by the Europeans people. Infact Italy has the largest tuna processing industry in the world.

Mussels and Clams share of imports have also been growing as both are famous among the people of Italy. Mussels themselves are imported from Spain during the off season, as a high no. of mussels and clams are consumed every year by the massive no. of tourist’s n local citizens.

And the imports are mostly from India as India is rich in producing good quality seafood. Recently Europe held a European seafood exposition on the 27th of April 2010 whose basic purpose was to advertise the large manufacturing seafood machine to the big suppliers and the big buyers. It was considered to be the most effective way of attracting customers, displaying new technology and meet up with challenges in the seafood industry. Good old English Fish and chips?…Mm what more can you ask for from life.
